COOK AND D'ALESSIO EARN WEEKLY CONFERENCE HONORS
For the second time this season, two Samford athletes have earned weekly conference honors after yet another successful weekendRyan Cook was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Week while Lauren D'Alessio was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

At last weekend's Meyo Invite in South Bend, Ind., Cook set a new personal best in the pole vault by clearing 16-2.75 (4.95m), tying for third place.  This gives him the second-best mark in the SoCon so far this season, only trailing teammate Owen Wagoner's mark of 16-6.75 (5.05m), set at the Auburn Invitational.  Cook's mark also ranks fourth all-time at Samford.

D'Alessio's success from the fall cross country season has certainly carried over so far this spring, most recently finishing seventh in the invitational section of the 3,000 meters in 9:35.80.  This is the best 3,000-meter mark in the conference by a large margin, edging out Appalachian State's Amanda Hamilton by nearly 13 seconds.  D'Alessio also owns the school record in the event, as she ran 9:27.23 as a redshirt during the 2012 indoor season.

LAST TIME OUT: TWO RECORDS FALL AT MEYO INVITE
Last weekend, Samford traveled north to South Bend, Ind., on the campus of Notre Dame for the prestigious annual Meyo Invitational.  There, Nathan Hendershot and Jonathon Bush both broke school records.

Hendershot finished seventh in Friday's 1,000-meter race, running in 2:27.36.  This breaks Paul von Hermann's previous school record of 2:29.36 set in 2002.  In Hendershot's last outing at the Auburn Invitational, he broke another one of Von Hermann's records by running 1:51.78 in the 800 meters.  A transfer this season from Clemson, Hendershot already has broken two school records in only three outings as a Bulldog.

Bush, a Birmingham native, broke his own school record in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 48.54 Saturday.  The old record of 48.85 was set in the preliminary round of last season's SoCon Championships.  He is still the only athlete in school history to run the 400-meter dash in under 49 seconds.

NEXT UP
The Bulldogs will be off next weekend before heading to the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., for the 2013 SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships. Events begin on Saturday, Feb. 23 and conclude on Sunday, Feb. 24.  Last season, Samford crowned seven individual conference champions and the men finished third while the women placed fourth.

Five Bulldogs will be defending their 2012 indoor titles: Bo Ackerson-Gilroy (heptathlon), Emily Allen (triple jump), Marie Demedicis (800 meters), Justin Emerson (60-meter dash) and Claire Goodson (pole vault).
