'Dogs Add Peters To Highly-Acclaimed Recruiting Class

Peters is considered by many as one of the top goalkeepers in the Midwest

Head Coach Todd Yelton will welcome one of his most talented recruiting classes in school history to campus in July.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In what was already considered to be one of the best recruiting classes in Samford soccer history, the Bulldogs' 2013 class received an additional boost Monday as highly-touted goalkeeper Katie Peters signed a national letter-of-intent to play at Samford University.

Peters, a 5-foot-9 native of Greenfield, Ind., attended Greenfield Central High School and was a member of the prestigious Carmel United Soccer Club. She earned ISCA First-Team All-State honors as a senior and was named the Player of the Year in Hancock County. Peters also garnered Most Valuable Player honors at GCHS and was a two-time team captain.

Last season, Peters received all-district, all-county and all-conference accolades for a fourth straight year. A tremendous athlete, she also excelled in basketball and was named the team captain as a junior in 2011. Peters earned multiple all-conference honors in basketball and led her soccer squad to the 2011 Indiana State Cup championship.

A four-time all-conference honoree, Peters earned ISCA Third-Team All-State accolades as a sophomore and was named the MVP of her squad at GCHS.

Peters started in goal as a true freshman and was quickly honored as the Top Team Player by the ISCA. She registered a school-record 15 shutouts in her first year and only allowed eight goals all season.

Prior to Peters' signing, Samford University soccer coach Todd Yelton officially announced the addition of seven players to national letters-of-intent on Feb. 19, as the Bulldogs continued their string of stellar recruiting classes on both a regional and national level.

Samford's highly-touted 2013 recruiting class also consists of Anna Allen, Taylor Borman, Olivia Cole, Malcanisha Kelley, Molly Pittman, Emily Praktish and Dale Steinagle. All seven of the aforementioned talented prep stars have already signed to play for the Bulldogs next season.
