BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Samford senior wide receiver
Kelsey Pope agreed to terms with the Arizona Cardinals as a free agent Saturday evening.
"I'm just blessed to have this opportunity," Pope said. "I'm grateful to have the opportunity and I can't wait to get started."
Pope will report to Arizona on Monday. The Sylacauga, Ala., native started at wide receiver for the Bulldogs from 2010 to 2013, and was a key player on Samford's 2013 Southern Conference championship team.
Pope is Samford's all-time leader in career receptions with 250 catches in his four seasons with the Bulldogs. He finished his Samford career with 2,385 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns. He also rushed for 285 yards and seven touchdowns.
For his senior season, Pope led the team with 68 catches for 789 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 60.7 receiving yards per game, and 11.6 yards per reception.
At the conclusion of the season, Pope was named first team All-Conference by both the Southern Conference's head coaches and media.
This marks the third-straight season a Samford player has signed with an NFL team. In 2012, Corey White was drafted in the fifth round by the New Orleans Saints, and Nicholas Williams was taken in the seventh round of the 2013 Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
