Men's Tennis To Host Fall Invite This Weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University men's tennis team will open play for its 2015 fall season at home this weekend as the Bulldogs host the Samford Fall Invite, Friday through Sunday, at the Samford Tennis Complex. Play is slated to begin at 10 a.m. (CDT) Friday.
"We are looking forward to getting our fall competitive season started this weekend here at home," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail said. "The team is very eager to compete and put to work the practice on and off the court that we have been putting in."
In its first competition of the fall campaign, Samford will square off against competitors from Jacksonville State, South Alabama and UAB. Singles and doubles will be played each day, starting with doubles competition every morning. On Friday and Saturday, matches will begin at 10 a.m., while Sunday is slated to start at 9 a.m.
"We are fortunate to have a group of high quality Alabama schools on campus this weekend competing in our tournament which should result in some very good quality tennis," Esmail said.
On Friday's opening day, Samford will take on Jacksonville State in doubles and UAB in singles, while South Alabama will be matched up with UAB in doubles and JSU in singles. In Saturday's competition, Samford will be matched with South Alabama in doubles and Jacksonville State in singles, while UAB will take on Jacksonville State in doubles and South Alabama in singles. On Sunday's tournament finale, Samford will be paired with UAB for doubles and South Alabama in singles, while JSU will take on South Alabama in doubles and UAB in singles.
Samford enters the fall returning five of its six main singles players from a season ago. Returnees to this year's team are: seniors Trey Carter, Fares Kilani and Henry Moore, junior Austin Ferrer, and sophomores Jake Faundez, Justin Ghavami, Eduardo Lourido Sanchez and Austin Heinz. Leonard Gerch, who hails from Berlin, Germany, also joins the team this season.
The 2015 Samford Fall Invite is schedule to begin at 10 a.m. (CDT) Friday with the doubles competition being followed by singles play. All of the matches will be held at the Bulldogs' state-of-the-art Samford Tennis Complex.
