ROUNDS 1 & 2 RESULTS
PINEHURST, N.C.—The Samford women's golf team sits in third place after the first two rounds of the Pinehurst Challenge, played Monday at Pinehurst No. 1 (Par 72, 5,974 yards).
Â
After firing a 302 in the first round, the Bulldogs posted an impressive 281 in the second round for a two-round total of 583. The second-round 281 ties the program record and was the lowest round for Samford since Sept. 16, 2013, when the Bulldogs shot 281 at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate.
Â
"I am so proud of this team," Samford head coach Rachel Ingram said. "What a great afternoon to tie our program record low of 281. To have a drop score of 73 and count all four scores under par is a feat. It is a true statement to their talent and commitment to hard work."
Â
East Carolina leads the tournament with a score of 572 (295-277), while Auburn is in second at 582 (288-294).
Â
Sophomore Anna Buchanan led Samford, tying for fourth in the 96-player field with a two-round score of 143 (72-71). Sophomore Madeline Davis sits in a tie for ninth posting a score of 145 (76-69).
Â
Freshman Hallianne Hobson is tied for 19th with a two-round score of 147 (77-70). Senior Haley Harrington finished the first two rounds in a tie for 26th with a score of 148 (77-71). Junior Kate Collom is in a tie for 79th at 156 (83-73).
Â
"As a whole, this young team has grown in its game both physically and mentally, which showed today," Ingram said. "Special congratulations to Maddie (Davis) today with her 69, but to all of the players for round two. Haley (Harrington) had her collegiate low round today as well."
Â
Lisa Pettersson of East Carolina currently leads the tournament with a score of 137 (72-65). Kelli Murphy of Auburn is in second, firing a score of 138 (65-73)
