KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C.—The Samford women's golf team shot a final-round score of 298 to finish 17^th at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic, played Sunday through Tuesday at Osprey Point Golf Club (par 72, 5,964 yards).

For the tournament, Samford finished with a three-round score of 906 (303-305-298), placing the Bulldogs 17^th in the 43-team field. Coastal Carolina won the event, firing a score of 870 (289-295-286).

Samford head coach Rachel Ingram said she saw some definite improvement in the performance of her team this week.

"The big difference this week was we came with a better game plan," Ingram said. "The girls spent more time planning out their shots, which was key due to the strong windy conditions. Our weakness lately has been not capitalizing on the par fives, and in fact losing strokes to the field. We learned from our mistakes last week and are improving our decision making."

Samford was led individually by its lone senior, Haley Harrington. Harrington tied for 17^th in the field that included 231 individuals. She finished with a three-round score of 219 (72-74-73).

"I am absolutely thrilled for Haley," Ingram said. "This was her best ever college tournament and her break-out moment, only the beginning for an amazing final spring season!"

Behind Harrington for Samford, Hallianne Hobson tied for 53^rd at 226 (74-78-74). Emily Uhland finished in a tie for 79^th, with a tournament-total score of 229 (76-77-76). Anna Buchanan shot a three-round total of 232 (81-76-75), tying her for 103^rd. Madeline Davis tied for 126^th with a final score of 235 (81-78-76).

Laura Fuenfstueck of College of Charleston earned individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 208 (70-68-70). Hee Ying Loy of East Tennessee State came in second at 210 (72-69-69).

Samford will return to action on March 13, when the Bulldogs compete in the Spring Break Shootout, hosted by Southern Mississippi in Dade City, Florida.
