BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 non-conference win over the UT Martin Skyhawks Monday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.

Samford picked up the first point of the match by winning the doubles point, taking the matches on the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts. At No. 1, Roos van der Zwaan and Ellie Gerlach defeated Asel Jumamukhambetova and Jemima Potter, 6-4. On the No. 2 doubles court, Holly Horsfall and Elsa Pool defeated Jule Streif and Mizuki Sakutai, 6-1.

In singles, Samford claimed wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 to pick up the 6-1 win.

At No. 1, van der Zwaan earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Jumamukhambetova. On the No. 2 singles court, Gerlach defeated Potter, 6-0, 7-6. At No. 3, Horsfall picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Streif.

Pool earned the win at No. 4 singles, defeating Andrea Plantada, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. At No. 5 singles, Arianna Beltrame defeated Olha Burak, 6-4, 6-2.

With the win, Samford improves to 5-6 on the season. UT Martin drops to 0-6 with the loss.

Samford will return to action on Saturday, March 10, when the Bulldogs host Murray State. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
