The University of Central Florida used the
emotion of Senior Night to hand Samford a 5-0 loss in Trans
America Athletic Conference women's soccer action Thursday
night.
Three of UCF's four seniors scored goals, in their final home match, as the Golden
Knights scored five times in the second half to improve to 5-11-1
on the season and 4-2 in the TAAC. Samford drops to 8-5
overall and 3-2 in the TAAC.
The majority of UCF's scoring took place in a five and a
half minute stretch. Jackie Kutudis scored the first goal
of the match in the 55th minute on an assist from Michelle
Anderson. In the 59th minute Kassia Panzik and Claire
Kohake each scored goals in a span of 40 seconds, and in
the 61st minute Alice Uhlir scored to make the score 4-0.
Jackie Van Looven scored the final goal of the evening in
the 80th minute off a pass from Cally Howell.
The five goals are the most given up by the Bulldogs this
season and it was only the second time Samford had been
shutout all season.
Despite the score, Samford goalkeeper Carrie Ollom had a
good match as she made 10 saves while facing 21 shots.
Ollom got very little support from the offense which only
mustard one shot by Jackie Foster.
The Bulldogs had the best scoring chance of the first half
but UCF's Carol Lewis broke up a breakaway attempt without allowing a shot to keep the match tied at 0-0 going into halftime.
Samford will have to regroup quickly as the Bulldogs travel
to Boca Raton, Fla. on Saturday to face Florida Atlantic in
a very important TAAC match.
