Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Jacksonville University scored goals in each half to extend their winning streak to 15-straight games with a 2-0 Trans America Athletic Conference women's soccer victory over Samford University Thursday night at Samford Field.

Samford (8-7, 3-4 TAAC) made several line up changes and came out fired up taking on the TAAC's only undefeated team. The Bulldogs took three shots in the first 10 minutes including a shot by Hayley Kolb which was headed for the back of the net if not for a good save by Jacksonville's Melissa Cancio.

Jacksonville (16-1, 8-0 TAAC) established ball control after the fast start by the Bulldogs and found the back of the net in the 37th minute on a header by Trine Riis Groven. The goal was her 15th of the season and was assisted by Marit Foss.

The Dolphins scored again off a counter attack in the 68th minute, Karen Novak received a pass from Stine Kloster and slide the ball past a diving Carrie Ollom.

Ollom had a strong match despite giving up the two goals. She made seven saves while facing 22 shots. The Bulldogs forced Cancio to make two saves while facing seven shots.

"I am proud of the effort we gave tonight," said Samford head coach Barry Spitzer. "We made some changes and the team responded to those changes. I think we had them confused early in the match. We came out composed and had some chances we just didn't take advantage of."

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday as the Bulldogs will host Stetson in what will be a battle for the sixth and final conference tournament position. The match will begin at 6 p.m. at Samford Field. Jacksonville will travel to Jacksonville State where it will try to finish TAAC play undefeated.
