Sept. 23, 2000

Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford freshman Hayley Kolb scored her second goal of the match just four minutes into overtime to give Samford a 3-2 victory over Campbell in Trans America Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday.

The win was Samford's sixth straight (6-2) and keeps the Bulldogs atop the TAAC standings with a 3-0 conference record. Campbell drops to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the TAAC.

Kolb opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as she took an assist from Kelly Christoffer and beat Campbell goal keeper Jamie Olson to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

Campbell's Becky Moghadden tied the match in the 54th minute with a goal off an assist by Sara Davis. Three minutes later, Jessica Dargle gave the Camels a 2-1 lead with a goal assisted by Erika Cupo.

Samford's Rebecca Kent tied the match in the 70th minute as she hit the far post netting with an assist by Allison DeLong. "Rebecca played huge today," said Samford head coach Barry Spitzer. "She really stepped up with Mitzi (Mahan) out of the starting line up."

Mahan who injured her foot on Thursday at Troy State made her appearance in the 71st minute and took five shots on goal but did not register a point. Instead, it was Kolb's night to shine. "Hayley is playing really well as a freshman," said Spitzer. "She created a lot of opportunities today and had two great goals. To get on a streak like we are on, you have to have everyone contribute. Thursday Carrie Ollom had a great match and Jackie Foster played great, today Hayley and Rebecca were great, on Tuesday someone else may step up."

Samford will attempt to move its school record winning-streak to seven when it hosts Montevallo on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at the Samford Soccer Field.
