Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Hayley Kolb and Mitzi Mahan scored goals as the Samford Bulldogs over came a 14 minute lightning delay to defeat Belmont 2-1 and pick up the first victory of the season in the second game of the Bruin Classic Saturday evening.

Klob scored the first goal of her collegiate career to the far post off a pass from Jackie Foster in the 35th minute of play to give Samford a short-lived 1-0 lead. Belmont tied the game just two mintues later as Mindy Jones found the back of the net on an unassisted goal to send the teams to the locker room at halftime tied 1-1.

Samford scored the only goal in the second half in the 62nd minute as Mahan found the back of the net with a shot set up by Lindsay Anglin. The goal proved to be the game winner as Belmont could not get anything else past Samford goal keeper Carrie Ollom. Ollom made nine saves in the contest as the Bruins outshot the Bulldogs 20-9.

Samford improves to 1-2 with the win while the Bruins fall to 0-2. The Bulldogs will play their home opener on Wednesday Sept. 6, at 6 p.m. against Alabama A&M.
