ELON, N.C. ---- The Samford University volleyball team earned their 27th win of the season Thursday night as it swept Elon (25-18, 25-22, 25-21) at the Alumni Gym in Elon, N.C. The Bulldogs have extended their win streak to nine now and tacked on their 16 conference win tonight, their second ever against the Phoenix. The Bulldogs now lead the series with Elon two wins to one and moved to 27-3 overall, 16-1 in league action.

The Bulldogs left at 7 a.m. Thursday morning and were on a bus for over eight hours before playing the Phoenix tonight. If such a trip could wear down a team, Samford did not let it affect its play this evening.

"Tonight was a great all-around effort by these girls," Samford head coach Derek Schroeder said. "The girls handled the travel with maturity and were very focused as soon as we were off the bus. I'm very proud of their determination today."

Kirstein Sosnowski led the Bulldogs in kills against Elon while Samantha Bland and Sheridan Stangohr led the hitting effort for Samford. Sosnowski knocked down 11 kills and grabbed one block assist while Bland had 10 kills and hit .421 and Stangohr scored on nine kills off of 15 attempts with no errors for a .600 hitting percentage. Bland also grabbed one ace and six digs while Stangohr had one ace, one block assist and two digs.

Hillary Fountain had 34 assists, three kills, five digs, and one block assist while Courtney Gay led the Bulldog defense with nine digs. Sarah Gardner and Sara Sears both had four digs while Gardner grabbed two aces and Sears had six kills, two aces and one block assist. Rachel Gadberry had one kill and one block solo.

The Bulldogs will round out the regular-season on Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. match at UNC-Greensboro.
