Mitchell Second; Bulldogs In Fourth At Lady Paladin Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Samford women's golfer Natalie Mitchell carded an opening-round score of 76 on Friday to take sole possession of second place in the individual standings at the 40th Lady Paladin Invitational Golf Tournament this weekend at the par-72, 6,160-yard Furman University Golf Course.
As a team, Samford posted an 18-hole score of 316, which was good enough for fourth place in the standings. The talent-laden field also includes Appalachian State, No. 45 Augusta State, No. 81 East Tennessee State, No. 82 Furman, Elon, No. 58 Georgia State, High Point, No. 72 James Madison, No. 76 Longwood, Montana State, Nova Southeastern, No. 80 South Florida, Winthrop and Wofford.
The Bulldogs are only two strokes out of second place in the tournament and eight strokes behind first-place East Tennessee State (308). Georgia State currently sits in second place with an opening-round score of 314, while South Florida is just one stroke ahead of Samford at 315.
Individually, Samford's Mitchell trails only first-place Sian Evans from East Tennessee State by a single stroke. Mitchell, the Bulldogs' sophomore from Germantown, Tenn., fired an 18-hole score of 76 on Friday, while Evans carded a 75.
Samford's Emily Stallings and Kayla Turner both turned in identical rounds of 77 on day one of the 40th Lady Paladin Invitational.
The 54-hole tournament will resume Saturday at 8 a.m. (CDT), while Sunday's final round is currently scheduled for a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
