Michael Seaman Ties For 16th At NCAA Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa - Samford's Michael Seaman tied for 16th in the pole vault at the NCAA Championships Wednesday evening at Drake University.
The junior from Bardstown, Ky., turned in a vault of 16-10.75 in Wednesday's championship event. He tied for 16th with Andrew LeHaye of Florida State. The winner of the event was Scott Roth of Washington with a vault of 17-8.50.
Seaman advanced to the final round after finishing in an 11-way tie for first place at the NCAA East Region preliminary meet on May 28.
Seaman qualified for the 2011 regional meet at the beginning of May with a season-best mark of 17-01.00 at the FSU Twilight. That mark came just two weeks after Seaman captured his second consecutive SoCon Outdoor title in the pole vault.
This marks the second-consecutive year that Seaman has qualified for the NCAA Championships. Last season, Seaman became the first male to represent Samford at the NCAA Championships after taking fifth place at the regional meet with a school-record mark of 17-02.75. He finished 16th in last year's championship round in Eugene, Ore., with a vault of 16-04.75.
