BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford football team will report for the 2013 season on Friday, Aug. 2, with the team's first practice scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 3.
This season will mark the seventh season at Samford for head coach Pat Sullivan and his staff. The Bulldogs posted a record of 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the Southern Conference in 2012.
The Bulldogs will report Friday afternoon at the Cooney Family Field House, and the team will have its first team meal of the season later that evening in the Samford Cafeteria. Saturday's first practice is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start at Seibert Stadium.
Samford returns eight starters on offense and five starters on defense this season. The Bulldogs were picked to finish fourth in the Southern Conference by the league's coaches and fifth in the league by the media. Seven Samford players were named to the preseason All-SoCon teams, including preseason Co-Defensive Player of the Year Jaquiski Tartt.
The team's first two-a-day workout will be held on Aug. 12, with practices scheduled for 9:10 a.m. and 4:20 p.m. The Bulldogs will scrimmage on Aug. 10, and again on Aug. 17, both at 9:30 a.m.
Samford opens the 2013 season by travelling to Atlanta to take on the Georgia State Panthers on Friday, Aug. 30, in the Georgia Dome. The game, which will be broadcast live on ESPN3, is scheduled for a 6 p.m. (CT) start.
