Samford SAAC Holds New Student-Athlete Social

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Samford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its third-annual newcomer social for all new student-athletes Monday evening in the Pete Hanna Center.

All freshmen and transfer student-athletes, as well as members of SAAC were invited to the event. Samford director of athletics Martin Newton got the evening started by talking to the student-athletes about setting goals.

The student-athletes then divided into teams and competed in a variety of events, including assembling a puzzle, get to know you, balloon cup knock down, pie eating, toilet paper mummy, doughnut string, panty hose bowling, streamers, tissue box pull and frozen t-shirt. The first team to complete all activities was declared the winner.

The team named "SoCon" won the contest. Members of the winning team were Ben Carrick, Jacob Greer, Jamal Shabazz, Austin Chapman, Marquis Barnes, Kate Collom, Clara Bowen, Lindsey Kessler, Lydia McGee and Gabby Greenwald.

At the conclusion of the evening, the student-athletes were served ice cream.Â
