Spartanburg, S.C. - - The Samford men's and women's cross country squads competed in the 2017 Southern Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at the Milliken Research Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

On the women's side, senior
Karisa Nelson started the day off with a second place finish for the Bulldogs in the 5K race. Following Nelson for the Bulldogs was senior
Anna Long (5
th) and sophomore
Mary Grace Strozier (10
th).

The three top ten finishes turned in by the Bulldogs runners propelled them to a runner-up finish overall. Furman took home the championship with six top-10 finishes on the women's side.

Also competing for the Bulldogs were senior
Haley Ward (11
th), sophomore
Shian Mallory (15
th), sophomore
Kathryn Foreman (16
th), senior
Emma Garner (22
nd), and freshmen
Abbey Zane (24
th) and
Allie Nelson (30
th).

The Bulldogs second place finish is their second-consecutive runner up finish.

The men followed the women with an 8K race finishing third overall. Leading the Bulldogs was senior Arsène Guillorel with a sixth place finish followed by junior
Ben Bryant (12
th) and junior
Owen Bailey (16
th), who just missed out on a top 15 finish.
Furman who also took home the championship on the men's side turned in eight top-10 finishes to propel them to the top spot, while ETSU took home second place.

The Bulldogs will continue their 2017 campaign at the NCAA Regional meet November 10
th in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
