Three Bulldogs Earn Trip To National Meet

Birmingham, Ala. - - Three individuals from the Samford cross country team will have the opportunity to continue their season at the 2017 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship Meet Saturday in Louisville, Ky.
Bulldog runners Karisa Nelson and Anna Long each earned automatic bids after finishing second and sixth respectively in the women's South Region. This will be Nelson's second straight trip to the National meet. Arséne Guillorel finished ninth on the men's side and later learned that he would receive an at large bid giving him his third consecutive trip to the National Championship meet.
Three individual competitors are the most Samford has ever sent to the NCAA Division I Cross Country Meet.
"I am excited for our athletes and hopefully we can walk away with three All-Americans," Samford cross country coach Pat McGregor said. Â "That is something Samford has yet to see in the sport."
The overall performance by the women's squad nearly earned them a trip to nationals as a team, as they finished third, just missing out on the automatic bid secured by the top two finishing teams at each regional meet. Both the ladies and the men's teams finished ahead of numerous power five schools, and the ladies were the only non-power five school to finish in the top ten of the South region.
The National Championship meet will be hosted by the University of Louisville on Saturday, November 18, at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
The women's race will begin at 9:45 a.m. (CT), followed by the men's race at 10:45 a.m. Coverage of the championships will be available through FloTrack.com.
