Young Bulldog Squad Opens At Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- The Samford men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2017 season at the JSU Struts Season Opener held just off the campus of Jacksonville State University at Oxford Lake on Friday evening. The Bulldogs entered a young group of athletes on both the men's and women's side of the field.

The Bulldogs took home a sixth-place finish in the women's 4k and a fifth-place finish in the men's 5K. Georgia Tech took the team title in both the men's 5K and the women's 4K. Alabama's men finished second followed by Troy, while the Troy women took second just ahead of Alabama.

The first Bulldog to come across the line for the women was freshman Allie Nelson (23rd) followed by sophomore Lauren Granier (35th). Finishing first for the Bulldogs on the men's side was sophomore Joyner Bosquet (36th) followed by freshman Peirce Jackson (38th).

The Bulldogs will return to action in two weeks Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Montevallo Classic hosted by the Montevallo Falcons.
