SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Samford women's basketball team wrapped up its SoCon-opening two-game road swing with a 58-46 loss at Wofford Saturday afternoon at Richardson Indoor Stadium.

With the loss, Samford falls to 8-9 overall and 0-2 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs are 0-7 in true road games so far this season. Wofford improves to 7-9 overall and 1-1 in league games.

Samford was led by senior guard Hannah Nichols with 12 points and 11 rebounds, marking her fifth-straight double-double. Cassidy Williams scored seven points, while Raven Omar and Samantha Fitzgerald added six points each.

For Wofford, Da'Ja Green led the way with 13 points. Kelsey Lambdin scored 12 points, while Cairo Booker added 11 points for the Terriers.

Samford jumped out to an early 6-3 lead with 6:54 left in the first quarter after a layup by Olivia Crozier. Wofford then went on a 5-0 run to take an 8-6 lead with 3:16 left in the period following a free throw by Emily Ryan. Wofford held an 11-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

With Wofford leading, 16-13, the Terriers went on a 9-2 run to push their lead to 25-15 with 1:39 left in the second quarter after a free throw by Anna Claire Atha. A jumper by Nichols and a three-pointer by Omar cut the Wofford lead to 25-20 heading into the locker room at halftime.

Samford opened the third quarter on a 13-5 run to take a 33-30 lead with 3:08 left in the third quarter after a three-pointer by Williams. Wofford scored the next five points to take a 35-33 lead with 1:44 left in the period. After Samford tied the score at 35-35 on a layup by Nichols, Wofford scored the final four points of the quarter to take a 39-35 lead at the end of the third period.

The game remained close through most of the fourth quarter until, with Samford trailing, 45-41, Furman went on a 9-2 run to push its lead to 11 points at 54-43 with 1:07 to go after a pair of free throws by Green. Samford could get no closer than nine points the rest of the way as Wofford came away with the 58-46 win.

As a team, Samford shot just 29.1 percent, while Wofford made just 29.6 percent of its shots. The Terriers were 20-of-31 from the free-throw line, while Samford was 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. Samford won the rebounding battle, 41-39.

Samford will return home to host the Mercer Bears Saturday, Jan. 13. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center and admission is FREE.
