Final Results
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford University's track and field teams competed in the first indoor meet of the season at the Blazer Invitational inside the Birmingham Crossplex on Friday, January 11.
In the men's 60 meter dash,
Emmanuel Tait advanced from the preliminaries to the finals and finished in fourth with a time of 6.87 seconds.
Rachel Dixon finished in second place in the women's 500 meter dash with an official time of 1:17.15, less than a second behind Riley White from Mississippi State who finished at 1:16.39.
In the 1,000 meter run,
Shian Mallory and
Mary Grace Strozier both finished in the top eight, within almost exactly two seconds of each other. Mallory finished fourth with a time of 2:55.95, while Strozier finished at 2:57.97 and sixth overall.
Karisa Nelson, a national champion in the mile in 2017, took home first-place in the 3,000 meter run. Nelson beat out Emily Drouin from UAB, who finished second, by a full twenty seconds. Mary Thorne finished just outside the top eight by two seconds in ninth at a time of 10:28.18.
Junior
Dillon Dean finished in third of the men's 3000 meter run. Dean, a member of the All-NCAA South Region Team in cross-country, finished with a time of 8:37.07.
The Bulldogs were all over the top finishes of the men's mile run.
Owen Bailey, Ben Garner, and
Brad Cheek all finished within the top six. Bailey finished second with a time of 4:15.64, Garner finished with third with a time of 4:21.26, and
Brad Cheek finished sixth with a time of 4:25.38.
Hunter Poole and
Luke Dobbins finished within the top ten overall with times of 4:33.13 and 4:41.20.
In the women's pole vault event, Jackie Barnes and
Tally Wilson finished in eighth and ninth place by successfully landing vaults over three meters. Barnes recorded a 3.65 meter vault while Wilson recorded a vault of 3.50 meters.
In the pole vault for the men's division,
Hugh Duggan and
William Chapman both had top eight finishes. Duggan landed a vault of 4.85 meters, while Chapman tied with Johannes Erm of Georgia after a successful 4.70 meter vault.
Erin Hines finished third overall in the women's long jump event after being recorded at 5.67 meters. Hines finished behind two student-athletes from the University of Georgia. In the women's triple jump event, sophomore
Morayo Bhadmos nearly jumped 12 meters and finished sixth overall, when recorded at 11.95 meters.
The Bulldogs' track and field team is back in action next Thursday and Friday, January 17-18, when they host the Samford Multi Event Competition at the Birmingham Crossplex.
