BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team cut a 23-point second-half deficit down to just three points late in the fourth quarter, but fell just short in an 88-84 loss to Western Kentucky Sunday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.
With the loss, Samford falls to 3-9 on the season. Western Kentucky improves to 8-2 with the win.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Samford jumped out to an early 10-4 lead with 7:42 left in the first quarter after a three-pointer by Myers.
- With Samford leading, 12-6, WKU went on a 12-2 run to take an 18-14 lead with 3:48 left in the opening period after a layup by Creech.
- Samford fought back to tie the game at 22-22 with 1:03 left in the quarter on a three-pointer by Paige Serup, but WKU led, 26-22 at the end of the first quarter.
- Western Kentucky pushed its lead to 10 points at 38-28 with 5:29 to go in the second quarter following a three-pointer by Creech.
- The Lady Toppers led by as many as 14 points in the second quarter, and they held a 46-32 lead at halftime.
- WKU led by as many as 23 points in the third quarter.
- With the Lady Toppers leading, 66-47, Samford closed the quarter with a 13-0 run to cut the lead to 66-60 heading into the fourth quarter.
- After Samford cut the lead to 66-62 early in the fourth quarter, WKU went on an 8-0 run to push its lead to 74-62 with 7:38 to go after two free throws by Dee Givens.
- Samford fought back to cut the lead to five at 76-71 with 3:27 to go after a three-point play by Battle.
- With WKU leading, 86-80, Brown sank three free throws to cut the lead to 86-83 with 18.6 seconds to go.
- Samford, however, could get no closer and the Bulldogs fell by a score of 88-84.
