Women’s Basketball Earns 79-66 Win Over North Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford women's basketball team had four players score in double figures in a 79-66 win over North Alabama Friday night at the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 1-4 on the young season. North Alabama falls to 0-5 with the loss.

  • Andrea Cournoyer led Samford for the second-straight game, scoring 19 points in the win.
  • Natalie Armstrong scored 15 points for the Bulldogs.
  • Raven Omar scored 14 points and dished out eight assists.
  • Annie Ramil had 10 points and nine rebounds for Samford.
  • UNA was led by Macey Lee with 13 points.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • North Alabama jumped out to an early 9-3 lead with 7:01 left in the first quarter after a jumper by Alexis Callins.
  • Samford answered with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to one point at 9-8 with 5:11 to go in the first quarter after a three-point play by Ramil.
  • The Bulldogs took a 13-11 lead on a three-pointer by Armstrong with 2:23 left in the opening period.
  • Samford held an 18-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Samford started the second quarter with an 8-0 run to push its lead to 26-15 with 6:15 to go in the quarter after a three-pointer by Omar.
  • The Bulldogs extended their lead to 18 points at 35-17 with 3:23 left in the second quarter following a three-pointer by Katie Allen.
  • Another three-pointer by Allen gave Samford a 21-point advantage at 40-19 with 1:45 left in the second quarter.
  • Samford took a 41-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • The Bulldogs started the third quarter with an 11-4 run to push their lead to 52-27 with 7:43 left in the third quarter after a layup by Cournoyer.
  • UNA came back to cut the lead to 16 points at 52-36 with 3:32 left in the third quarter following a layup by Lee.
  • Samford held a 58-38 lead at the end of the third quarter.
  • Samford led by as many as 24 points in the fourth quarter.
  • UNA fought back to cut the lead to 11 points at 76-65 with 51 seconds left in the game after a three-pointer by Jaida Bond.
  • The Bulldogs came away with the 79-66 victory.
