Women’s Basketball Falls At No. 9 Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. –
The Samford women's basketball team dropped an 88-54 decision at ninth-ranked Kentucky Sunday afternoon at Memorial Coliseum.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 1-5 on the young season. Kentucky improves to 6-0 with the win.

  • Samford was led by Andrea Cournoyer with 14 points and four rebounds.
  • Natalie Armstrong had 10 points and five rebounds for Samford.
  • Mallory Hampton also contributed 10 points for the Bulldogs.
  • Kentucky was led by Chasity Patterson with 16 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Samford grabbed an early 3-2 lead on a three-pointer by Raven Omar with 8:16 to go in the first quarter.
  • Kentucky then went on a 9-0 run to take an 11-3 lead with 5:41 left in the first quarter following a layup by Blair Green.
  • The Bulldogs fought back to cut the lead to four points at 12-8 with 4:37 left in the opening period after a layup by Cournoyer.
  • Kentucky extended its lead to 11 points at 21-10 late in the first quarter, and the Wildcats held a 23-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Samford cut the lead to seven points at 26-19 with 8:07 to go in the second quarter after a three-pointer by Cournoyer.
  • Kentucky pushed its lead to 45-26 with 2:43 to play in the second quarter after a layup by Rhyne Howard.
  • The Wildcats led by as many as 22 points in the second quarter and took a 50-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • Kentucky extended its lead to 32 points at 73-41 at the end of the third quarter.
  • The Wildcats led by as many as 35 points in the fourth quarter and finished with the 88-54 win.
