Women's Basketball Falls At Jacksonville State, 63-46

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. –
The Samford women's basketball team dropped a 63-46 decision at Jacksonville State Wednesday night at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 1-6 on the season. Jacksonville State improves to 3-2 with the win.
 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Natalie Armstrong led Samford with 13 points and eight rebounds.
  • Annie Ramil had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs.
  • Andrea Cournoyer had eight points, while Raven Omar contributed seven points and 10 rebounds.
  • Yamia Johnson led Jacksonville State with 14 points and nine rebounds.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was tight throughout the first quarter, with neither team able to gain more than a two-point advantage.
  • Jacksonville State held a 9-7 lead at the end of the first period.
  • Samford took a 15-12 lead with 7:07 left in the second quarter a three-pointer by Omar.
  • Jacksonville State answered with a 10-0 run to take a 22-15 lead with 2:40 left in the second quarter after a layup by Keiara Griffin.
  • JSU led, 27-22 heading into the locker room at halftime.
  • Samford cut the lead to one point at 27-26 with 6:55 to go in the third quarter after a basket by Mallory Hampton.
  • The Gamecocks built a 41-32 lead, but Samford fought back to cut the lead to 41-38 with 49 seconds left in the third quarter after a free throw by Omar.
  • JSU led, 44-38, at the end of the third quarter.
  • In the fourth quarter, Jacksonville State built its lead to double digits at 54-44 with 4:30 to play after a layup by Taylor Hawks.
  • JSU pulled away in the final period, leading by as many as 19 points, and the Gamecocks came away with the 63-46 victory.
