Myers Scores Career High As WBB Earns SoCon Road Win At ETSU, 76-60

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. –
Samford senior forward Sarah Myers scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Bulldog women's basketball team earned a 76-60 road Southern Conference win at ETSU Thursday night at Brooks Gym.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 13-13 overall, and the Bulldogs remain in a first-place tie in the SoCon standings with an 8-3 conference mark. ETSU falls to 8-19 overall and 3-9 in league play.
 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Myers made 11-of-18 shots from the floor, including 3-of-5 from three-point range on the way to her third double-double of the season.
  • Shauntai Battle scored 12 points, while Natalie Armstrong added 11 points for the Bulldogs.
  • Charity Brown had eight points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for Samford.
  • ETSU was led by Micah Scheetz with 18 points.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • After ETSU took an early 5-0 lead, Samford answered with an 8-2 run to take an 8-7 lead with 6:23 left in the first quarter after a three-pointer by Myers.
  • ETSU built a six-point lead at 14-8, but Samford closed the first quarter strong, taking a 21-20 lead at the end of the first period.
  • After the Bucs came back to take a 25-23 lead, Samford went on a 10-4 run to take a 35-27 lead with 2:50 left in the second quarter after a layup by Olivia Crozier.
  • Samford took a 42-35 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • Samford opened the third quarter with a 12-0 run to push its lead to 54-35 with 7:03 left in the period after a free throw by Armstrong.
  • ETSU scored the next seven points in a row to cut the lead to 54-42 with 3:49 left in the third quarter.
  • After Samford extended its lead to 15 at 57-42, ETSU scored the next nine points to cut the lead to six points at 57-51.
  • Samford, however, scored the final four points of the quarter to take a 61-51 lead into the final period.
  • The Bulldogs extended their lead back to 16 points at 71-55 with 3:57 left after a jumper by Myers.
  • ETSU cut the lead to 13 points at 73-60, but the Bucs could get no closer as Samford closed out the 76-60 victory.
