CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Samford women's basketball team earned its fifth-straight win in a 64-47 Southern Conference victory at Western Carolina Saturday afternoon at the Ramsey Center.

With the win, Samford improves to 6-6 overall and 3-0 in Southern Conference play. Western Carolina falls to 3-9 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Andrea Cournoyer led Samford with a season-high 20 points and eight rebounds.
Audra Leipold scored 15 points for Samford.
Makaila Woolard had 11 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Raven Omar dished out seven assists for Samford.
Western Carolina was led by Tembre Moates with 16 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Samford jumped out to an early 6-2 lead with 6:46 to go in the first quarter after a layup by Annie Ramil.
Western Carolina answered with a 13-3 run to take a 15-9 lead with 2:25 left in the first period after a three-pointer by Lauren LaPlant.
WCU led, 19-14, at the end of the first quarter.
Samford cut the lead to 19-17 with 9:32 left in the second quarter after a three-point play by Woolard.
Western Carolina pushed its lead back out to six at 27-21 with 3:42 left in the second period after a three-pointer by Moates.
Samford then ended the second quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 28-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.
With Samford leading, 30-29, the Bulldogs used a 16-2 run to push their lead to 15 points at 46-31 with 2:41 left in the third quarter after a three-pointer by Cournoyer.
Samford led by as many as 16 points in the third quarter, and the Bulldogs held a 50-37 lead at the end of the period.
Samford opened the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run to push its lead to 18 points at 55-37 with 8:39 left after a three-pointer by Leipold.
The Bulldogs maintained a double-digit lead the entire fourth quarter and finished with the 64-47 win.
