CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Samford women's basketball team suffered its first Southern Conference loss of the season in a 70-57 setback at Chattanooga Saturday evening at McKenzie Arena.
With the loss, Samford falls to 7-7 overall and 4-1 in SoCon play. Chattanooga improves to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in league contests. Samford remains in a tie for first place in the SoCon standings.

- Andrea Cournoyer led Samford with 19 points.
- Audra Leipold added seven points for the Bulldogs.
- Makaila Woolard led Samford in rebounding with eight.
- Chattanooga was led by Abbey Cornelius with 16 points and eight rebounds, and Eboni Williams with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Chattanooga jumped out to an early 13-5 lead with 5:49 to go in the first quarter after a three-pointer by Bria Dial.
- The Mocs built their lead to 19-8 with 2:28 left in the first period following a layup by Cornelius.
- Samford fought back to cut the lead to 21-15 with 45 seconds left in the quarter after a three-point play by Cournoyer.
- Chattanooga held a 23-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- The Mocs pushed their lead out to 29-15 with 7:30 to go in the second quarter after a three-pointer by Williams.
- Chattanooga built its lead to 40-23 late in the second quarter, and the Mocs took a 40-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- The Mocs pushed the lead out to 23 points at 52-29 with 4:51 to go in the third quarter after a three-pointer by Dana Jarrells.
- Chattanooga led by as many as 26 points in the third quarter and the Mocs held a 59-33 advantage at the end if the period.
- Samford cut the lead to 13 points in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs could get no closer as Chattanooga came away with the 70-57 win.
