BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford University Athletics has named Isabel Rothschadl its new Director of Strategic Communications/Social Media within the Office of External Affairs. Rothschadl will direct Samford's digital and social media media efforts while working along side Joey Mullins, Assistant AD for Communications, to tell the story of SU's 385-plus student-athletes, coaches and staff. She begins her duties with the Bulldogs on Monday, Feb. 1.
"We're thrilled to have Isabel Rothschadl join the External team here at Samford," Matt Jones, Senior Associate AD for External Affairs, said. "Rothschadl brings a vast skill set and knowledge base to our team that will help us continue to grow the Samford brand on a local and national level. As a former student-athlete at Mercer, she also brings with her an understanding of the inner workings of the Southern Conference and its member institutions."
The Carrollton, Ga., native, comes to Samford after serving this past year as the Assistant AD for Communications at Indiana University at Kokomo. At IUK, Rothschadl engineered coverage and operations efforts for all 14 Cougar sports while also implementing social media strategies that increased engagement across their digital and social platforms.
"I am excited to start my journey as a Samford Bulldog, and I am grateful to Matt Jones and his team for allowing me to work for such an accredited institution," Rothschadl said. "I know Samford University is focused on not only creating exceptional students and athletes but also well-rounded individuals. I look forward to working alongside coaches, staff, and administration in the growth and success of Samford Athletics."
Before IUK, Rothschadl worked at the University of West Georgia where she served as a Sports Information Department Assistant overseeing 13 intercollegiate sports for the 2018-19 academic year. In her role at UWG, she assisted with game operations and management, media relations, marketing, and promotions. A key focus during her time with the Wolves was implementing marketing and social media strategies through the use of social media platforms, graphic productions, media releases, and athletic event promotions.
Prior to her time at the University of West Georgia, she served as an Athletic Media Relations Coordinator at her alma mater Mercer University. Her duties included post-event media releases, pre-game and in-game coverage including notes and team statistics, and updating the official website.
Additionally, in her time at Mercer University, she played for the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer program where she captured a Southern Conference Championship and made an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014.
Rothschadl is a graduate of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia where she received her Bachelor's in Sports Business Management with a minor in Marketing. She also attended the University of West Georgia earning a Master's in Business Administration.
