IOWA CITY, Iowa – Despite 15 points from
Andrea Cournoyer and 15 rebounds from
Annie Ramil, the Samford University women's basketball team fell 91-54 to No. 9 Iowa (2-0) in the season-opener on Thursday, Nov. 11 at Carver Hawkeye Arena. Monica Czinano led the Hawkeyes with 20 points while All-American Caitlin Clark closed the night with 19.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawkeyes jumped out to a 25-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and kept the pressure on the Bulldogs the rest of the half, as Iowa led 47-22 at halftime.
- Iowa shot 61 percent on 20-of-33 from the floor in the first half while holding Samford to 30 percent (8-of-27). The Hawkeyes used 14 turnovers to score 19 points in building their lead.
- Andrea Cournoyer paced the Bulldogs with six points at the break while Sanaa Redmond and Annie Ramil added four points apiece.
- Caitlin Clark led Iowa and all scorers with 15 points. Monica Czinano also had eight for the Hawkeyes.
- Iowa outscored the Bulldogs 21-15 in the third quarter while leading 68-37.
- The Bulldogs kept the fourth quarter close, but the No. 9 Hawkeyes finished the frame with 23 points to seal the 91-54 victory.
STATS OF THE GAME:
- No. 9 Iowa shot 60 percent (37-62) from the floor while holding Samford to 33 percent (19-58).
- The Hawkeyes scored 31 points off 24 Samford turnovers.
- The Bulldogs shot 34 percent from 3-point range after making 10-of-29 attempts.
- Cournoyer closed the night with 15 points while Shauntai Battle and Kierstin Nelson finished nine points apiece.
- Annie Ramil had a game-high 15 rebounds and six points for the Bulldogs.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Thursday's game was the third meeting in series history with the Hawkeyes owning a 3-0 edge. Iowa won both previous meetings at home, claiming a 66-60 victory on Dec. 3, 2006, and an 80-59 decision on Dec. 3, 2017.
- Samford's initial starting five for game one of the season featured Shauntai Battle, Andrea Cournoyer, Jaden Langford, Mattie Hatcher, and Annie Ramil.
