BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team had three players score in double figures on its way to a 75-50 win over Montevallo Sunday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Montevallo jumped out to a 12-4 lead following a layup by Savannah Lee with 5:51 to go in the first quarter.
- Samford answered with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 12-11 on a jumper by Andrea Cournoyer at the 4:28 mark on the first period.
- With Montevallo leading, 17-15, the Falcons scored the final four points of the first quarter to take a 21-15 advantage at the end of the period.
- In the second quarter, Montevallo built its lead to eight points at 25-17 with 6:11 to go in the period after a layup by Jordan Jones.
- Samford used a 6-0 run to close to within two points at 25-23 with 2:55 left in the second quarter following a layup by Shauntai Battle.
- The Bulldogs took a 30-28 lead on a fast-break layup by Cournoyer with 53 seconds left in the second quarter.
- With the game tied at 30-30, a four-point play by Cournoyer gave Samford a 34-30 lead at halftime.
- After Montevallo tied the score at 34-34, Samford used a 15-3 run to take a 49-37 lead with 3:40 left in the third quarter after a layup by Battle.
- Samford stretched its lead to 15 points at 56-41 on a basket by Sussy Ngulefac at the end of the third period.
- In the fourth quarter, Samford pushed its lead to as many as 25 points, and the Bulldogs finished with a 75-50 victory.
STATS OF THE GAME:
- Cournoyer led Samford with 21 points and six rebounds in the win.
- Battle scored 14 points, while Annie Ramil added 10.
- Freshman Sanaa Redmond dished out a game-high nine assists for the Bulldogs.
- Montevallo was led by Lee with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The win was the first of the season for Samford.
- Dating back to last season, Samford has now won 10-straight home contests. The last loss at home came in the team's home opener last season to UT Martin, 75-67.
UP NEXT:
- The Bulldogs remain at home when they play host to Jacksonville State Wednesday evening in the Pete Hanna Center. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
