BATON ROUGE, La. – The Samford women's basketball team dropped an 83-47 decision at No. 19 LSU Monday evening in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

LSU scored the first nine points of the game to take a 9-0 lead with 6:21 to go in the first quarter after a jumper by Jailin Cherry.
Samford answered with a 7-0 run to cut the LSU lead to 9-7 with 4:26 left in the first period after a three-pointer by Kathleen Wheeler.
LSU closed the first quarter with a 10-2 run to take a 19-9 lead at the end of the opening period.
The Tigers opened the second quarter with a 13-0 run to push the LSU lead to 32-9 with 5:16 left in the second period after a jumper by Timia Ware.
LSU led be as many as 28 points in the second quarter and the Tigers took a 42-14 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Samford cut the LSU lead to 26 points a few times in the third quarter but could get no closer in the period.
LSU held a 62-29 lead at the end of the third quarter.
LSU led by as many as 37 points in the fourth quarter and the Tigers finished with an 83-47 win.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Sussy Ngulefac led Samford in the game with a career-high 18 points and a career-high eight rebounds.
Andrea Cournoyer had 11 points and three assists in the loss.
Annie Ramil led the team in assists with four.
LSU was led by Cherry with 22 points.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

This was the third meeting between Samford and LSU, and the Tigers own a 2-1 series lead.

UP NEXT:

The Bulldogs will open Southern Conference play by playing host to Chattanooga on Jan. 6, at 6 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
