Women’s Basketball Hangs On For 46-42 Win Over UNCG

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford women's basketball team pulled out a 46-42 Southern Conference win over the UNCG Spartans Thursday night in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 10-7 overall and 7-1 in Southern Conference play, keeping the Bulldogs in first place in the league standings. UNCG falls to 4-13 overall and 2-6 in conference contests.

  • Annie Ramil produced her sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 16 rebounds.
  • Natalie Armstrong was the team's leading scorer with 14 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UNCG jumped out to a 10-2 lead with 6:38 to go in the first quarter following a three-pointer by Sorensen.
  • Samford cut the lead to 10-7 with 50 seconds left in the first quarter on a three-pointer by Armstrong.
  • UNCG held a 10-7 advantage at the end of the first period.
  • Samford opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 15-10 lead with 7:46 left in the second quarter after a jumper by Audra Leipold.
  • Samford stretched its lead out to 13 points at 25-12 with 2:42 left in the second quarter after a pair of free throws by Katie Allen.
  • Samford took a 27-19 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • UNCG opened the third quarter with an 8-2 run to cut the Samford lead to 29-27 with 5:22 left in the quarter following a layup by Cece Crudup.
  • Samford pushed the lead back out to six points at 35-29 with 2:39 left in the third quarter following a layup by Armstrong.
  • Samford held a 35-33 lead at the end of the third quarter.
  • In the fourth quarter, Samford stretched its lead to seven points at 42-35 with 5:51 left in the quarter after a layup by Armstrong.
  • UNCG fought back to cut the lead to two points at 42-40 with 2:35 left in the fourth quarter after a layup by Sorensen.
  • Late free throws by Armstrong, Raven Omar and Cournoyer helped Samford hold on for the 46-42 win.
