Samford Women’s Basketball Drops Road Contest At Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Samford women's basketball team fell 81-51 to the Vanderbilt Commodores in the Bulldogs' first road game of the 2022-23 season.
Samford falls to 0-2 on the young season following the loss, while Vanderbilt moves to 2-0.
Andrea Cournoyer paced the Samford offense with a team-best 15 points. The senior also pulled down four rebounds on the evening.
Rylie Stephens and Sussy Ngulefac joined Cournoyer in double figures. Stephens poured in 12 points for her best performance in a Bulldog uniform, while Ngulefac added 11 more points.
Off the bench, Emily Bowman scored a career-high eight points and grabbed six boards. Freshman Carly Heidger also had six rebounds on the night.
In total, 13 Bulldogs saw action on Thursday night.
The lone Samford lead of the night came on the opening possession when Ngulefac grabbed an offensive and made a layup to give Samford a 2-0 advantage 14 seconds into the game.
Seven of Cournoyer's 15 came in the second quarter including a 5-0 run by herself to end the opening 20 minutes and cut the halftime deficit to 36-25 Vanderbilt.
The Commodores put the game away by opening the second half on a 9-3 run before ultimately prevailing 81-51.
Samford continues a three-game road trip on Monday, Nov. 14 as the Bulldogs stay in the Volunteer state to take on the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech. The tip is slated for 6 p.m. CT in Cookeville.
