Samford Women’s Basketball Falls In Monday Night Battle At Tennessee Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Samford women's basketball team dropped a back-and-forth affair on Monday 75-70 to the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech.
 
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 0-3 on the campaign while Tennessee Tech improves to 2-1 for the year. 
 
Sussy Ngulefac had a career night on Monday, scoring 21 points for her best night in a Bulldog uniform. The sophomore missed the second double-double of her career by two rebounds, finishing the night with a team-leading eight. 
 
Despite the defeat, Andrea Cournoyer dazzled by scoring a game-high 28 points with six boards and four steals. Cournoyer's 28 points were one off her career-high of 29 that she scored against Furman twice.
 
Kathleen Wheeler added eight points and a team-high four assists. Rylie Stephens led the Bulldog bench with four points. 
 
Samford opened the game white-hot and held a 24-15 lead after the opening frame before eventually building a 12-point lead after a Ngulefac three-point play in the opening seconds of the second quarter. 
 
Tennessee Tech stormed back to take a 38-35 advantage into the locker room at the half. The Gold Eagles led by as many as six before Cournoyer hit a pull-up three at the buzzer to shirk the deficit to three. 
 
The game of runs continued in the second half as the Bulldogs 10 of the 15 points in the quarter fueled by Cournoyer and Ngulefac. 
 
After 30 minutes of play, the two squads found themselves in a 51-51 tie to set up a thrilling fourth quarter. 
 
With 1:16 remaining in regulation, Cournoyer drained a three to tie the game at 66-all. Tennessee Tech answered immediately with a 5-0 run before taking the game 75-70.
 
Samford travels to Alabama A&M on Thursday for an all-Bulldog contest to close out the early season road trip. Tip is slated for 5 pm CT.
