Samford Women’s Basketball Tames Talladega In Midweek Contest

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team scored a season-high 84 points in an 84-47 routing of the Talladega Tornadoes Tuesday night at the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the victory, Samford improves to 3-3 on the season and will take a three-game win streak into the UCF Thanksgiving Classic. Talladega falls to 4-2 with the loss. 
 
"I Just didn't love the effort we had in the first quarter, but I really thought we stepped out in that second quarter and held them to seven points and five points in the next two quarters," Samford coach Carley Kuhns said. "A lot of people stepped up and played good minutes."
 
In a game that saw all 14 Bulldogs get playing time, the quartet of Sanaa Redmond, Emily Bowman, Andrea Cournoyer and Macey Lee each scored in double figures to lead Samford's offensive. 
 
Redmond had her best game of the season with 15 points and a trio of assists. Bowman scored a career-best 12 points and pulled down a game-high six rebounds. Cournoyer, who enter the night as the ninth-best scorer in the country poured in 11 points and had four steals, while Lee added 10 more for her first double-figure scoring performance as a Bulldog. 
 
Talladega jumped out to a 23-19 lead after the opening 10 minutes and led by as six in the opening minutes. 
 
Following the first quarter, Samford flipped the switch, and it was all-bulldogs. 
 
Led by eight points from Redmond and six more from Lee, Samford outscored Talladega 30-7 in the Secord quarter. 
 
The second half saw more of the same as the Bulldog lead ballooned to 40 points with the help of a 14-0 run. Talladega could get no closer than 34 points fourth quarter as the Bulldogs pulled away for the 84-47 victory. 
Samford will head south to take part in the UCF Thanksgiving Classic starting on Saturday, November 26 with host UCF.
