Fourth Annual Samford Athletics Giving Day Set for Tuesday, Nov. 15

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The fourth annual Samford University Athletics Giving Day is set for Tuesday, Nov. 15. Athletics Giving Day was established in 2019 as an opportunity for all former Samford student-athletes, alumni and friends of Samford Athletics to make a gift directly to the programs of their choice. Last year, 431 donors gave a total of $77,595 representing an increase of more than 125 percent from the inaugural event.
"Philanthropic support is such a critical component to the work we do in this department and the success of our 17 men's and women's programs," Martin Newton, Director of Athletics said. "We rely heavily on the generosity of those who believe in our student-athletes, our coaches, this University and the importance Division I athletics plays on this campus. We take great pride in building a culture of generosity among our student-athletes, coaches and staff and it's especially meaningful when we see our former student-athletes re-engage and give back with their time, talents and treasures. Athletics Giving Day is the perfect opportunity to begin that journey of paying it forward and investing in the success of our current and future Samford student-athletes".
To encourage even greater participation this year, Newton, a former Samford student-athlete himself has agreed to match the first $3,000 given by former student-athletes.
"We are grateful for Martin's tremendous leadership and his support of Athletics Giving Day." Maggie Folker, Director of Development said. "We invite all former student-athletes, alumni and friends to follow his lead by making a gift of ANY SIZE this year and encouraging others to do the same."
