Samford Women’s Basketball Drops Midweek Contest At Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team fell 66-61 to the Lady Hornets of Alabama State.
The Bulldogs drop to 4-7 on the season and will head to Nebraska on Dec. 10 for the middle leg of the three-game road trip. Alabama State moves to 1-6 on the season.
Sussy Ngulefac tied her career-high and paced the Bulldog offense with 21 points on the night. Ngulefac and Alyssa Tarpley each pulled down a team-best six rebounds to lead the Bulldogs on the Boards.
Joining Ngulefac in double-figures, Andrea Cournoyer had 15 points in 30 minutes while Sanaa Redmond scored eight points of her own.
Carly Heidger led the Bulldog bench with seven points and a trio of rebounds.
In the opening frame, Alabama State jumped out to a 12-5 advantage before Cournoyer scored 11 of her 15 on the night to tie the game at 20-20 after the opening ten minutes of play.
The back-and-forth game continued in the second quarter as the in-state foes battled to a 31-all tie at halftime. Ngulefac started to make per presence known with a quarter high five points.
The Samford offense exploded for 21 points in the third period behind Ngulefac's eight points and a Tarpley three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Bulldogs a 52-47 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Samford led by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter before Alabama State ended the game on a 17-4 run to claim the 66-61 win.
