Samford Women’s Hoops Drops 60-52 Decision At Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C -- The Samford women's basketball team dropped a 60-52 decision at Wofford Saturday afternoon at Richardson Indoor Stadium.

With the loss, Samford falls to 12-15 overall and 7-6 in the Southern Conference. Wofford improves to 14-11 and 9-2 in the league.

Audra Leipold led Samford in the loss with 10 points. Sussy Ngulefac and Mallory Hampton had nine points each. Kathleen Wheeler had eight points and 10 rebounds, while Annie Ramil tallied six points and 10 rebounds.

Jackie Carman led Wofford with 17 points. Reagan Rapert followed with 14 points for the Terriers.

Samford took an early 4-0 lead with 8:21 to go in the first quarter following a layup by Leipold. The Terriers took a 7-6 lead at the 3:00 mark in the first period after a layup by Carman. After Samford took an 8-7 lead, Wofford scored the final five points of the quarter to take a 12-8 lead at the end of the first period.

Samford tied the score at 13-13 with 7:47 remaining in the second quarter after a three-pointer by Shauntai Battle. The Bulldogs took a 16-15 lead with 6:33 left in the second period following a three-pointer by Sanaa Redmond. Wofford scored the next six points to take a 21-16 lead at the 4:41 mark in the second quarter after a layup by Alexis Tomlin. The Bulldogs scored the final six points of the quarter to take a 22-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Wofford opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 27-22 lead with 7:41 left in the period after a three-pointer by Carman. The Terriers held a 40-28 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Terriers pushed their lead out 13 points at 45-32 with 7:32 left following a three-pointer by Carman. Samford cut the lead to seven points at 47-40 with 4:11 left after a jumper by Leipold. The Bulldogs got to within four points at 50-46, but Samford could get no closer as Wofford finished with the 60-52 win.

Samford will return home on Saturday, Feb. 26, to host Mercer at 2 p.m. The game will be Samford's regular-season finale.
