EUGENE, Ore. – Samford sophomore Ashton Domingue earned second-team All-America honors in the men's javelin throw at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Wednesday evening at Hayward Field.
Domingue had a personal-best throw of 67.98 meters on his first attempt, placing 15th in the event. The top eight finishers in each event at the championships are named first team All-Americans and the athletes finishing ninth through 16th earn second team honors.
"My last three meets have been PR's, so we really have something good cooking here at Samford, me and Tom Pukstys, my coach," Domingue said. "What a blessing he has been to me. It's only up from here. I can't wait for next season, my first year at Samford was a good one."
Benjamin Garner also competed in the semifinals of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase Wednesday evening, earning honorable mention All-America honors. The top five in each of the two semifinal races, plus the next two times advanced to Friday's finals. Garner placed 12th in the second race and 24th overall with a time 8:55.49, ending his season in the semifinal race.
Brittany Bishop will compete in the women's pole vault Thursday evening. Her event is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. (CT) and fans can follow along at the following links: LIVE RESULTS or WATCH LIVE.
