BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's and women's track and field teams returned to action with a strong showing at the UAB Blazer Invitational Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
 
"This meet was about shaking off the rust and seeing where we were after Christmas break," Samford head coach Rod Tiffin said. "So, to have the performances we had makes me feel good about where we are. With seven weeks left until conference I feel every week is important so that we will be ready. We are excited to keep moving forward."
 
The Samford men's team had seven representatives place in the top three of their respective events. On the women's side, four Bulldogs were among the top three in their events.
 
Samford took home first-place finishes in four different events. In the men's pole vault, Jed Sisco won with a height of 5.20 meters. Ian Jones won the men's triple jump, leaping 14.40 meters, while the relay team of Evan Brooks, William Malcolm, Matthew Grigg and Cagan Campbell won the men's 4x200 relay with a time of 1:28.38. Brittany Bishop won the women's pole vault with a height of 4.01 meters.
