BOX SCORE (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Samford center Emily Bowman tied a program record with 18 rebounds and guard Sadie Stetson scored a career-high 24 points as the Samford women's basketball team remained unbeaten at home with a 65-51 win over Jacksonville State Sunday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.

With the win, Samford improved to 6-2 on the season, including a 5-0 mark at home. Jacksonville State fell to 3-5 with the loss.

Stetson made 9-of-13 shots from the floor and 6-of-7 from three-point range. Lexie Pritchard tallied 14 points and four assists. Bowman scored nine points and blocked four shots to go along with her 18 rebounds.

"I thought this was an incredible team performance," Samford head coach Carley Kuhns said. "I thought a lot of different people stepped up in different moments and made shots when we needed to. Our goal today was to get more than 30 defensive rebounds, we knew that was the effort it was going to take for us to beat them. Emily got half of them, she had 15 defensive rebounds, that's incredible. She had four blocks. Even without scoring, she has no idea how much presence she brings to our team, defensively and rebounding. Sadie, that was obviously an incredible shooting performance by her, but that's not a surprise to me."

Jacksonville State was led in the loss by Rachel Johnson with 12 points. Bre'Ann Rhodes added 10 points for the Gamecocks.

Samford jumped out to an early 12-4 lead with 4:24 to go in the first quarter following a jumper by Pritchard. Jacksonville State fought back to cut the lead to two points at 16-14, and Samford held an 18-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Jacksonville State opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run to take a 23-18 lead with 8:07 left in the first quarter after a layup by Samiya Steele. After a timeout, Samford closed the second quarter with a 16-2 run to take a 34-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Samford pushed its lead out to 14 points at 39-25 with 9:13 left in the third period following a layup by Stetson. After JSU cut the lead to 11 points at 47-36, Samford closed the third quarter with a 6-2 run to take a 53-38 lead at the end of the third period.

In the fourth quarter, Jacksonville State cut the Samford lead to eight points at 53-45 with 7:11 to go after a three-pointer by Johnson. Samford answered with a 12-3 run to push its lead out to 17 points at 65-48 with 2:49 left in the game after a three-pointer by Stetson. Samford finished with the 65-51 win.

Samford will next play at Alabama on Sunday, Dec. 10. The game is set for a 2 p.m. start from Tuscaloosa, Ala.
