Birmingham, Ala. – In the final regular season home game of the 2022-23 campaign, the Samford women's basketball team dropped a 70-59 contest to Mercer Bears on Senior Day. 
 
The Bulldogs fall to 13-14 overall with a 7-5 record in Southern Conference play. Mercer improves to 11-14 on the year and 7-5 during conference play. 
 
Before the game, Samford honored Kathleen Wheeler and Andrea Bailey as a part of the program's annual Senior Day ceremony. 
 
After missing the Chattanooga game due to injury, Bailey treated the Bulldog faithful to a vintage Bailey performance as the senior recorded the third double-double of her career and the second this season with a team-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. 
 
Masyn Marchbanks tallied her 10th-straight double figure scoring performance as the freshman poured in 16 points with eight boards on the afternoon. 
 
To make it a trio of Bulldogs in double figures, Sussy Ngulefac ended the game with 14 points and five rebounds.
 
Kathleen Wheeler scored five points in her final home game at the Pete Hanna Center. 
 
Marchbanks hit a three in the game's opening moments to catapult the Bulldogs to a 12-9 lead after the opening quarter of play. 
 
Samford led by as many as seven spurred by an 8-2 run in the heart of the second frame before Ngulefac made a layup with 21 ticks of the clock left in the first half to give the Bulldogs a 32-28 advantage heading into the locker room. 
 
The tightly contested game continued into the third before Mercer took the lead for good on the heels of an 11-3 run. 
 
Mercer outscored the Bulldogs 24-15 over the final 10 minutes of play to leave Birmingham with a 70-59 win.
 
Samford will close out the regular season with a road trip to Wofford on Feb. 23 before the regular season finale at Furman on Feb. 25.
