BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Samford track and field teams wrapped up a busy weekend by competing in the South Alabama Invitational on Sunday, held at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Jose Penalver was a standout performer for the Bulldogs, winning the men's 800 meter with a time of 1:50.07, setting a meet record.
Three other Bulldogs also earned top-three finishes:
Katie Strozier placed second in the women's 800 meter (2:11.68),
Riley Alexander finished third in the women's pole vault (3.65m), and
Edwin Rainey came in third in the men's triple jump (14.45m).
The men's 4x400 meter relay team of
Landon Wright,
Ty Kimberlin,
Jackson Olivo, and
Cagan Campbell finished fourth with a time of 3:17.90.
Other top-five finishes included
Hannah Daffin in the women's shot put (fifth, 13.91m),
Kaelyn McCann in the women's pole vault (fifth, 3.65m),
Dorsey Parker in the women's high jump (fourth, 1.64m), and
Harper McGowan in the women's 800 meter (fifth, 2:17.22).

The Bulldogs, who have just two weeks left to prepare for championship season, will host the Samford Bulldog Invite next Friday and the Samford Bulldog Open next Saturday. Both meets will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex. A small contingent of Bulldogs will also head to Nashville to participate in the Vanderbilt Invite.
The Southern Conference Indoor Championships will be held on February 25-26 at the VMI Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington, VA.
