Samford Falls To ETSU In Pink Out Game

Birmingham, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team dropped Thursday night's Pink Out game to the ETSU Buccaneers 75-63 to open the final homestand of the 2022-23 season.

With the defeat, Samford retreats to 13-12 on the year and 7-3 in Southern Conference play. ETSU improves to 18-7 overall and 5-4 in the league.

A trio of Bulldogs ended the night in double figures with Sussy Ngulefac pacing the squad with a team-high 15 points. The sophomore also grabbed five boards.

Masyn Marchbanks recorded her seventh-straight double figure game of the season with 12 points of her own.

Kathleen Wheeler led all Bulldog reserves with 10 points. Wheeler and Rylie Stephens each had six rebounds to lead the Bulldog attack on the boards.

In only four minutes of game action, Emily Bowman scored eight points.

Thursday night saw the return of Andrea Bailey and Sanaa Redmond to the Samford lineup. Bailey scored ended the evening with seven points and five rebounds while Redmond grabbed one rebound in her return after missing six games.

The Buccaneers of ETSU came out firing in the opening quarter and drained a quartet of threes to establish a 20-13 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play.

ETSU's hot shooting performance continued in the second as the visitor's lead grew to 15 in the opening possession of the quarter. Samford began chipping away before ultimately going on a 10-0 run to cut the halftime deficit to 42-35.

Samford's surge continued into the third quarter as the Bulldogs ended the frame only down a pair of points as Bailey, Stephens and Ngulefac engineered a 7-0 run.

That would be the closest Samford would get as the visiting Buccaneers outscored the Bulldogs 25-15 in the fourth for the 75-63 final.

Samford welcomes Chattanooga to the Pete Hanna Center on Saturday for Camp Day. Tipoff is tentatively scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and will be dictated by the conclusion of the Samford men's game starting at 2 p.m. CT.
