Bulldogs Open Outdoor Season With Strong Showing At Falcon Classic

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Samford men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2023 spring season with a strong showing at the Falcon Classic, hosted by the University of Montevallo Saturday.

Samford student-athletes placed in the top three of various events a total of 22 times during the meet. Bulldogs took home first-place finishes in 11 events.

On the women's side, Amiel Dabney won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.43 seconds. Ayden Drake took home the title in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing the race in 1:04.03. In the triple jump, Kelsey Martin finished first with a height of 11.46 meters. Dorsey Parker won the high jump at 1.65 meters. Riley Alexander won the pole vault with a vault of 3.60 meters. In the javelin throw, Erin Long won the event with a toss of 48.52 meters. Grace Lueders, Martin, Drake and Kaitlyn Cole won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:57.87.

For the men, Landon Wright won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.87 seconds. Matthew Grigg took home the title in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing the event in 53.15 seconds. Walker Smith won the pole vault with a height of 5.00 meters. Evan Brooks, Grigg, Ty Kimberlin and Cagan Campbell won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:17.19.

Samford will next compete in the Bulldog Relays, hosted by Mississippi State. The meet is set for Mar. 23-25 in Starkville, Miss.
