Samford Falls Short In SoCon Tournament To ETSU

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Samford women's basketball fell in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament to the ETSU Buccaneers by a score of 63-47 on Thursday night.

Samford finishes the season with a 13-17 record for the second-consecutive season. ETSU improves to 23-8 on the year and will play Chattanooga in the semifinal on Friday.

Sussy Ngulefac paced the Bulldog offense on Thursday with a team-high 16 points to go along with five rebounds.

Joining Ngulefac in double figures, Maysn Marchbanks netted 13 points on the evening.

Carly Heidger had a Bulldog-best seven rebounds in the defeat.

In her final game wearing the Samford red, white and blue, Andrea Bailey scored five points, collected two boards and had a pair of steals.

Marchbanks opened the scoring on Thursday evening with a layup 53 seconds into the game. After an 8-0 run by the Buccaneers, Samford countered with a 9-0 run of its own before settling into a 13-11 lead after the opening quarter of play.

Kathleen Wheeler sank a jumper 13 seconds into the second period for the largest Samford lead of the evening at 15-11. ETSU scored eight of the last ten points of the first half to take a 28-24 advantage into the locker room.

The Buccaneers took control in the third quarter by outscoring the Bulldogs 17-9 in the frame.

Alyssa Tarpley sank a three in the opening moments of the fourth to keep things interesting before ETSU push its lead to as many as 17 before ending Samford's season with a 63-47 final.
