BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford Athletic Trainer Rae Martin has been selected to work with and travel with Team USA Women's Freestyle Wrestling at the upcoming UWW Senior World Championships.
At the event, Martin will have the opportunity to work with several world champions and Olympic medalists. Wrestlers who place on the podium at this event will qualify in their weight class for the USA to send to the Olympics.
Martin is in her second year at Samford. She works with the Bulldog football and softball teams.
Prior to joining the Bulldogs Sports Medicine team, Martin served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at King University in Bristol, Tenn., from 2017-2019, predominantly working with the women's wrestling, softball, and swimming teams. She was granted an opportunity to work alongside a Sports Orthopedic Surgeon as a Clinical Athletic Trainer and First OR Assist from 2019-2021. Martin returned to King University for the 2021-2022 academic year as Co-Head Athletic Trainer. During her time at King University, she worked with men's wrestling, softball, men's volleyball, acrobatics and tumbling, cycling, and track and field.
Martin graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training coupled with a concentration in Exercise Science and a minor in Education. After earning her ungraduated degree, she completed a graduate assistantship at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2017, while earning her Master of Science in Athletic Training, Advanced Clinical Practice.
Martin is no stranger to international competition. She is a member of the USA Wrestling Medical Pool, where she worked with the women's wrestling Olympic team prior to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Martin was also the Athletic Trainer for Team USA at the World Championships in Oslo, Norway in 2021.
