BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –Samford graduate linebacker
Noah Martin was named a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award by Stats Perform Tuesday morning.
The Buck Buchanan Award, named for legendary defensive lineman Junious "Buck" Buchanan, who starred at Grambling State as part of his Hall of Fame career, is given to the top defensive player in all of Division I-FCS football. This year marks the 30
th anniversary of the award, and the winner, to be selected by a national voting panel, will be announced at the Stats Perform FCS National Awards Banquet on Jan. 4 in Frisco, Texas.
Martin currently ranks seventh in the nation in tackles per game, averaging 10.4 stops per contest. His 114 total tackles rank third in the Southern Conference. He had double digit tackles in eight of the team's 11 games this season, including a season-high 14 tackles in his final game against Western Carolina.
In addition to his tackles, Martin had two interceptions, including one he returned 26 yards for a touchdown in the team's 55-35 win over seventh-ranked Mercer. He also tallied 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
