Samford Women Picked Second, Men Fifth in Preseason SoCon Cross-Country Polls

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its preseason cross-country polls on Wednesday. Samford's women's team was picked second, while the men's team was voted fifth.
Both polls were voted on by the head coaches of the SoCon.
On the women's side, Furman was tabbed to win the league with 81 points. The Bulldogs tallied 71 points to come in second and were followed by Chattanooga (61), ETSU (57), Mercer (52), UNC Greensboro (39), Western Carolina (33), Wofford (31), VMI (18) and The Citadel (9).
In the men's poll, Furman selected the favorite with 81 points. ETSU was picked second with 72 points and was followed by Mercer with 60 points to round out the top three. Mercer was followed by Chattanooga (56), Samford (52), UNC Greensboro (39), Western Carolina (39), VMI (24), The Citadel (16) and Wofford (11).
Last season, the Samford women's team finished second at the SoCon Championships, while the men's team came in fifth.
The Bulldogs will open the 2024 season on Friday, Aug. 30, when Samford will compete in the Jacksonville State-hosted Foothills Invitational. The 2024 SoCon Championships are slated for Nov. 1 in Greenville, S.C.
